For all those who are interested in the music we used in the IN IT – NYC clip, below is a brief run down from my man Harry McNamara…
CITY B ROLE (throughout)
MF Doom – “Plumskinzz”/”Vervain”/”Emblica Officinails”- This is one of the most interesting and talented rapper/producers around. Check out his 3 disk album Special Herbs: Volume 0-9, to hear more beats to fit the soundtrack of your life.
Pepe Bradock – “A/R”- An international French producer, known for his house music, showing us his appreciation for hip hop on this track. Is that a little Wu-Tang sample I hear?
Suff Daddy – “Chinatown Chill”- Who knew there were awesome hip hop producers in Germany!? Inspired by guys like Madlib and MF Doom, he samples a lot of classic 90’s hip hop to make beautiful tracks like this. “Suff” in German means ‘drink heavy’…incase you were wondering.
St. Germain – “Sure Thing”- A French musician who combines the influences of many different styles of music. A little bit of dub, jazz, blues and even house can be heard in his music. Since he goes by a few different stage names, you may have to do a bit of searching for his other work.
PIZZA (Bleeker Steet Pizza/ Artichoke) 0:54 – 1:34
Vince Guaraldi – “Blue Charlie Brown”- Some relaxing jazz from a legend. Who doesn’t like Charlie Brown… or pizza?
BURGERS (Burger Joint) 1:50-2:41
Nick Lowe - “Big kick, Plain Scrap!” – This UK singer songwriter and musician is a classic. One of the great new wave and pub rock artists, he has also produced albums for guys like Elvis Costello. Check him out!
OYSTERS (Mermaid Inn Oyster Bar) 2:50-4:08
Kutiman – “Trumpet Woman”- You may have seen his popular online music video project “ThruYOU”, but he is also a talented musician. Hailing from Israel, he played classic jazz until heard James Brown. Check out his self titled album Kutiman, to funk up your life.
MEXICAN (Empellon Taqueria) 4:20-5:42
Truby Trio – “Jaleo (feat. Concha Buika)”- These German guys have been making music since the mid 90’s. They have a wonderful nu jazz sound, sampling from all genres. Plus they make me want to eat more tacos!
BBQ (Fette Sau) 6:00-7:32
Kid Koala – “2 Bit Blues” – Kid Koala has been sctraching since the early 90’s and is still making music today. He is extremely innovative, yet can stay true to the form of turntable hip-hop. He’s worked with many artists like Gorillaz, members of Wolfmother, and Deltron 3030.
If you have enjoyed the music or loved the clip (or both) please share it around…
